Jimi Hendrix Celebration featuring Jeff Moore & the Witchdoctors with Isaiah Mitchell and Earthless and Anthony Cullins

Every November for the last 22 years, Jeff Moore and The Witchdoctors host a tribute concert called “A Celebration of Jimi  Hendrix~~Playing Tribute to a Legend”. As such, it is the longest  running Hendrix tribute in the city. But for the life of him, Moore  can’t remember exactly why he started doing it. “I don’t know. There’s a fair amount of really good guitar players here in town  that love the Hendrix music and that have a certain…affinity…for that sound.” “Yeah. It’s taken on a life of its own, it has an  existence beyond my will, beyond the scope of what I had anticipated.” More than just a recording artist, Jimi Hendrix became a proving  ground for rock guitarists of a certain generation of which Jeff  Moore is one. Jeff is often at his best when knee-deep in a  Hendrix cover like “Voodoo Child,” pushing his amp to a point that  one would not be surprised to see flames burst from the stack. We want to play the guitar music that we like. We just go for those  tones because we know them. It’s a classic rock thing. All of us  aspire to those guitar tones. The Hendrix tribute is an evening  with local rock guitarists and their bands, where everyone can  enjoy that music.

Jeff Moore is a native San Diego Guitarist who has played for  over 55 years. He has played or toured with: Chuck Berry, The  Neville Brothers, Solomon Burke, Ike Turner, Gary Puckett and  the Union Gap, Bob Mosley from Moby Grape, Montezuma’s  Revenge, The Mighty Penguins, Soul Patrol, The Rebel Rockers  and many more.

Isaiah Mitchell was born in Boerne Texas and his family moved to Encinitas when he was 8. He grew up playing in bands starting in junior high and highschool. He started working at Moonlight Music in Encinitas when he was 16 and worked  in the shop and gave guitar lessons there for 12 years. He met his future band mates from Earthless working at the guitar shop. He has played guitar with other acts such as The Black Crowes, Howlin Rain, Golden Void, Lady Dottie and the Diamonds, Candye Kane and Drunk Horse. Earthless recently passed their 20 year mark as a band and continues to tour the world and create new music.

Anthony Cullins is a young musician/songwriter whose guitar playing  ability is years beyond his age. Anthony’s musical influences include  R&B, funk, soul, rock, jazz and blues prominently displayed in his  eclectic improvisational style he calls “psychedelic soul music, ranging  from Eddie Hazel and Jeff Beck to George Benson and Eric Johnson  with dozens of influences in between.Anthony recently put out a live  record, working on two studio albums, and won “Best Blues Artist” in  the 2023 and 2024 San Diego Music Awards.

Inspired by the music of Jimi Hendrix, Jeff Ruiz began playing guitar in high school and earned a scholarship to Berklee college of music in 1987.  After studying and earning a bachelor of music in guitar performance, Jeff returned to San Diego to perform, write, sing and do session work with various artist in San Diego and Los  Angeles.  Currently guitarist for Dan Diego based Led Zeppelin tribute band Dazed and confused, Jeff’s playing takes him all over the world performing many styles, but his real passion is the music of Jimi Hendrix.
